Yol follows the constraints people encounter as they return to different lives during temporary leave. Leaving prison does not necessarily make its characters free: family ties, tradition and social expectations shape their journeys. The Cannes archive records the film as a joint Palme d’Or winner in 1982.
Watch transitions between road and home, isolation within crowds and the conditions under which decisions are made. By placing different characters alongside one another, the narrative opens a social perspective wider than a single protagonist. Continue with Kilomètre Zéro for journeys and Voice of My Father for family memory.
