Born in Baneh in Iranian Kurdistan. After his short documentary Life in Fog, A Time for Drunken Horses became the first Kurdish-language feature shot in Iran. With Turtles Can Fly, Marooned in Iraq and Half Moon he filmed life on the borders, music and the mark war leaves on childhood. When he stopped making films in Iran he shot Rhino Season in Turkey; he produced his brother Batin Ghobadi’s Mardan and Life on the Border, filmed by children in the camps of Kobanî and Sinjar.
